History

Exhibition Park Raceway, New Brunswick's largest harness racing facility, located on McAllister Drive in East Saint John, is owned and operated by the Exhibition Association of the City and County of Saint John .

The half-mile track has been home to harness racing for more than 100 years. Formerly called Moosepath Park, it was renamed Exhibition Park in the late 40’s. It has been home to many of the most memorable races in Maritime history, including New Brunswick's fastest pacing mile of 1:54.3, set first by Montreal owned, Sandy Hanover, driven by Mike MacDonald in 1996 and equalled in 1999 by Maritime-bred Woodmere Topcat and Todd Trites. The track’s all time record for trotters is 1:59.4 set by West River Exotic, driven in 1994,  by Claire MacDonald, the Maritimes leading Female driver. The Maritimes fastest deadheat also was recorded at Exhibition Park when a pair of Ontario horses, Raleigh Fingers and Order to Go, reached the wire together in 1:54.4 to share victory in the 1999 Provincial Cup.

In 2006, the multi-level grandstand was torn down in hopes that a new one would be erected to take it's place.

In 2007, the provincial government are hoping to announce a new gaming strategy that the industry hopes will include " destination gaming ". This would allow what is known as a Racino that would see a number of forms of gaming under one roof.

This would include VLT/ slot machines along with table games such as Texas Hold 'Em. Until that decision is made, the government will invest over one-million dollars over a period of three years that will see the minimum purse rise from $ 675 to $ 925.

The track operates year ‘round, seven days a week. Post time is 2pm for live racing on Saturday afternoons, with other special races held during the annual Atlantic National Exhibition in late August.
